If Black English Isn't A Language, What is?

James Baldwin brings to light the fact that most people may speak the same NATIONAL language but can mean different things because they are from different areas. The example that he uses to explain this is people from Paris, Marseilles, Quebec, Guadeloupe, Manique and Senegal, Mr. Baldwin show that even though they all speak the same language, french, they could all mean something completely different then what the others have said. Even here in America, white citizens have changed the meaning of black words to suit their own purposes such as changing "jazz me, baby" to the Jazz Age. Even blacks that were forced to come over as slaves could bearly speak to each other because different tribes have different ways of talking and their words mean something different. It was in this time that blacks started to learn how t talk to eachother so the black church was started and so did "black english".

Mr. Baldwin also says "A language come into exstence by means of brutal necessity, and the rules of the language are dictated by what the language must convey." Through out history many things have been created out necessity, but nothing is more inportant then a language for you and others like you can speak. Mr. Baldwin makes a very good point at the end of this piece "it may very well be that both the child, and his elder, have concluded that they have nothing whatever to learn from people of a counrty that has managed to learn so little." This comment strikes true becuase since America says that it is diverse, then why don't we know more and know how to communicate with others from a different background.

Right to Fail

Success and failure walk hand in hand with each other. Every one in the world has a right to see and feel what failure is like. Any one who says that they have not failed at anything is either very lucky or is lying, even some of the nations presidents have failed in way or another. If one fails then that person learns from their failures. One time in my life that I can remember that I felt like I failed was when my parents pulled me out of karate. I was 4 belts away from being able to test for my first degree black belt. I really wanted to say that I achieved something that I really wanted at that age. Since my parents were also taking karate lessons and did not like the fact that some things were changed with no warning, they decided that we did not belong and pulled out, with me with them. When I asked them why they did it, they said that they felt that I was not learning anything. The truth was far from that, I was learning more then they knew. They knew that I was very committed to it and that I would love nothing less then to receive the black belt. As the years have gone by, I often look back and think “I failed, I should have fought to stay in, I failed” though at the same time thinking “I want to go back, I want to get that belt”. Maybe a day will come that I will go back and get the one thing that I failed to get, or I may end up seeing that I am in a sense a black belt in my own way. All I know is that that is that I have never forgotten what happened all those years ago.

CRAAP Test

For the CRAAP test I choose DHMO.org/milk.html. For the C (currency) the website does not show any dates of any attetions to the site. Nor does it show when the site was first made. For the R (relevance) it brings to light the use of Dihydrogen Monoxide in the milk industry. The first A (authority) the site was created by the United States Enviromental Assessment Center, that all it says, thats the organizations. The Accuracy is dead on because some famers do add DHMO to the milk, but that does not help the people drinking the milk. The Purpose is very clear it is used to inform us to about the dangers of DHMO in the dairy industry.

Fallacies

The first fallacie I chose is Appeal to Emotion (Argumentum Ad Misericordiam) and the article I chose is how Ecuadorian Prsident Rafael Chavez calls Columbian raids as War Crimes. The article goes on to say how President Chavez asked for international help and the Organization of the United States called the raids an attack on Ecuadorian sovereignty.

The second fallacie is the Appeal to Force (Argumentum Ad Baculum) though it is not violent, but in the buissness and political world it is. The article is on how Lawmakers are threatening to kill a tanker deal with the US Air Force. The Pentagon did not explain clearly enough why it was trying to form a partnership between Northrop Grumman and the partent group or Airbus, instead of Boeing. I understand why the House Appropriations Committee is doing this, Boeing has been the number one heavy aircraft factory since WW2.

The third fallacie is the Appeal to Improper Authority (Argumentum Ad Verecundium) though he is not famous by our but in Northern Ireland he is. Peter Robinson is the favored to be the next prodistent leader in Northern Ireland, he lead a mob attack on boarder town. Some of the press in the area say he is the best to gather the power that Ian Paisley holds as the current but out going leader.

All these fallacies have some parts to play in world politics, relations, and in buissness. All of these could be argued and discussed for a long time, though some may not have an interest about these topics/articles.

Middle-Schoolers Get the Pill

This article brings to light the fact that middle high school girls are being aloud with out parental consent. It’s a known fact that kids are maturing at a younger age and are becoming more sexually active then generations before them. This article, in a way, brings to light both sides of this issue. The sides are we should allow these girls to do so and the other side is more traditional and presents a more conservative view on the matter.

The first side is for these girls doing this BUT safely. It says that if these girls want to get the pill all they have to do is see the health center to get ONLY after an extensive questioning by the health center personal. Because most of these girls are immigrants or poor kids and are very sexually active. Most of which are 14 and 15 years old and in the eighth grade and the school district is trying to make it easier for lower ended girls to get the pill to have safer sex.

The other side is against these girls having sex until they are much older. This side is pushing abstinence until they are older and wiser about the dangers of having sex. This side is the old fashion conservative side of the political scale and is considered “Puritanical theocrats.”

Both sides show very similar sides and arguments that can be argued until we are all blue in the face. Middle school girls in this time are more concerned about being treated like adults then they are there age. This kid of thinking is very dangerous because this is how older men, which some times are predators, see and act upon. Girls of ANY age should consider that the risk is not worth it and wait until they know the dangers and can deal with the consequences of sex at a young age.
